How do I register for a TCI Training of Trainers (TxT) or Update, and when should I contact RCCP to register?
Everything you need to register for the initial TCI training of trainers, or a TCI Update is available on our web site at http://rccp.cornell.edu. To register for a TCI Training of Trainers or Update, you will need to submit the following:
–a completed and signed TCI application for the appropriate class
–either a check or a purchase order, payable to Cornell University, for the proper tuition cost.
–RCCP cannot accept payment via credit card.
–RCCP cannot accept any registration or payment information via telephone. Since the registrations RCCP receives are accepted on a first-paid first-served basis, and there is limited space in each offering, and classes have been filling up very quickly, we recommend that you submit your application and payment as early as possible to avoid being “shut out” of a training you would like to attend.
Is the TCI training I want to register for still open? If it is, can you sign me up?
We are not able to reserve space for you in any TCI training without completed applications and either a check or a purchase order for the proper tuition amount. Please remember that all of our TCI training of trainers (TxT) and Update courses are available on a first-paid, first-served basis.
The course is full? When I last talked to someone at RCCP, it was still open so I have already made my travel and hotel arrangements.
Please do not make any kind of travel or hotel arrangements until you receive notification from RCCP that you are registered for a training course. Both TCI Train the Trainer and Update training courses fill up very quickly. You may talk to someone at RCCP one day and the training course is open, but it could be full as son as later the same day. There is no way for RCCP to predict this, so we recommend that you sign up as early as possible.
What is “full” for the TCI training? Can I talk to someone about being added as an extra person?
The TCI Train the Trainer is limited to 18 people. RCCP cannot allow more than that for both quality and safety reasons.
I am a TCI trainer and I need to renew my certification but you only have one or two refreshers and none of them are in my area. How do I get re-certified?
You may attend ANY of the TCI updates to renew your certification as a TCI trainer. Much of the confusion in this has been from the use of the word “refresher.” The TCI Update, Designing Refresher Training, is NOT the only training you can go to for re-certification.
I am due for an update but the only one I can attend is after my certification expires. Do I have to take the full TCI training of trainers again?
Once your certification expires, you can no longer train TCI, but you have one year to reinstate your certification by successfully completing a TCI Update. After one year you need to successfully complete a five-day training of trainers to become a TCI trainer again.
What about these one-day updates that are now available? Can I take one of those one-day updates, or does it have to be a two-day update?
TCI trainers can get re-certified by successfully completing a one-day TCI Update if they have successfully completed BOTH TCI Updates: Post Crisis Response AND Designing Refresher Training. If you have not successfully completed both of these updates, you are not eligible to attend a one-day update.
Why was I never notified of any changes in the TCI curriculum, training schedule, or certification process?
We understand that due to changes in your own schedule, workload, and even location that you may not receive correspondence from RCCP on a regular basis. Here are some things you can do to help ensure that you are up to date on all things TCI, as well as new things the RCCP at Cornell might be doing:
1. Please read your certification letters that you receive when you have completed any TCI training. There may be changes that we are telling trainers about via their certification letters.
2. Check our website periodically. Changes to anything TCI will be on our website, as well as new projects/training that may be of interest to you.
3. Please read our Refocus newsletter carefully. If there are any changes, or new things going on, it will be in Refocus.
4. Please notify RCCP with any changes in your contact information. This is very important. If your address, phone number, and/or email address changes, please let us know as soon as possible. We cannot maintain contact with you without it. Our website is http://rccp.cornell.edu
I was certified as a TCI trainer almost two years ago and I have to get re-certified. I was certified in everything but the physical interventions. When I go to the update, can I upgrade my certification so that I am able to train the physical interventions?
Unfortunately, if you were not certified to train the physical interventions after completing the five-day TCI training of trainers, you will not be able to become certified to train the physical interventions in an update.
How can I purchase materials to conduct TCI training?
Direct training materials are available ONLY to TCI trainers—that is, trainers who have completed the five-day Training of Trainers course. If you are a TCI trainer, you may purchase: Participant Workbooks $15.00 Participant Certificates $15.00 (package of 20) If you have misplaced any of your TCI trainer materials, you may order replacements. The order form is available on our web site at http://rccp.cornell.edu. Again, these items are only available to TCI Trainers.
Does Cornell University give "CEUs" for TCI Training?
Cornell University does not give CEUs. We will be happy to complete any paperwork that you need or send any documentation that you require to apply for CEUs from your licensing board or university.
