The Residential Child Care Project was funded in 1982 by the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect in Washington, DC, to prevent the abuse and neglect of children who live in treatment, educational, and correctional institutions.The RCCP’s national and international leadership role in pioneering effective crisis prevention and management systems stems from the inter-relationships of its three primary activities: RESEARCH leads to improved OUTREACH programs, which are carefully evaluated. EVALUATION contributes to improvement of OUTREACH efforts and suggests new avenues for RESEARCH.

The RCCP has three main components:

Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) System
The TCI component works directly with child caring organizations seeking to lower rates of aggressive incidents and high risk physical interventions.

 

The Institutional Child Abuse Project (IAB) 
The IAB component works with state authorities to train child protection professionals to prevent and remediate institutional maltreatment.

Children And Residential Experiences: Creating Conditions for Change (CARE)
The CARE component works directly with child caring organizations to establish a safe, developmentally appropriate and trauma sensitive framework for practice that serves the best interest of the child.
