TCI Certification Process: Professional Certification

Professional Certification builds upon Associate Certification status representing a high standard of professional practice. Achieving Professional Certification confirms a trainers’ commitment to personal and professional growth and provides the potential for additional opportunities.

Eligibility for Professional Certification

The applicant for Professional Certification must have, (1) been a TCI associate trainer for a minimum of one year, (2) completed the TCI Update: Developing Professional Level TCI Training Skills, and (3) completed four direct trainings, to apply for Professional Certification.

Obtaining and Maintaining Professional Certification

A professional certification is granted upon the successful completion of the Professional Certification process (applicant notified 10-12 weeks after the application and portfolio are received by the RCCP). Professional Certified Trainers (PCT), must attend, and successfully complete, a Cornell sponsored TCI Update every two years (in New York State, the United Kingdom, and Ireland trainers must be recertified annually).  Additionally PCTs must submit evidence of their work outside of their organization.

Privileges of Professional Certification

Professional TCI trainers may provide direct training within their home agency, organization, or school and fee-for-service training that their agency sponsors. Agencies, organizations, or schools may not charge for TCI training unless a professionally certified trainer delivers the training. Professional TCI trainers may also provide TCI training independently on a fee-for-service basis. All TCI training must adhere to RCCP guidelines. **For further information and additional details, please click the "TCI Trainer Certification" brochure to the left.**
